Time to plug Sergey from videojibe.com again!  This guy is one serious tinkerer whose many DIY projects have given us a cool POV for mast cams.  By using two mast cams, we can now see both sides of the sail, analyze hand and footwork during transitions, and get a more complete picture of what's going on.  Think of it as being hovered over by a helicopter... without the helicopter.

And now, we have these cams in HD.  I've posted some frame grabs to give you an idea of the quality... each cam records 1280 x 720, and the resulting full resolution video is these two video streams put together.  Of course, this video is too big to stream conveniently, so the video has been scaled.

For those of you who would like to make one of these setups yourself, here are some instructions:

These cams are not waterproof, so you'll have to encase them in some sort of waterproof bag.  Sergey fabricates his own "socks" from this material:  http://www.rei.com/product/752384

If you find smooth clear vinyl for less, let me know :) Socks are fastened with thin velcro ties ($5 for 50 at Home Depot, AFAIR)

I used a "1 inch PVC tee" and "3/4 to 1/2 PVC L joint" (3/4 end cap could be used instead), aluminium angle from Home depot, stainless bolt (2 inch or 1 3/4 - check in the store with 1 inch tee), wingnut and stainless washers.

This is remake of old kit http://videojibe.com/featured/mast-mount-for-gopro-digital-hero-video-camera/

Note that I cut off top and bottom collars from 1 inch tee clamp to save weight.

Scary incident in Berkeley yesterday.

Killer Khan... that's what my friend used to call me in high school.  Now some of the Berkeley crew call me that, cuz I tend to arrive late and kill the wind, and yesterday was no exception

I got to Berkeley late around 5pm and rigged the 5.2 Loco and Twin Tip 100 as things were looking solid, however the wind was dying and going North at the dock as I was hitting the water.  Got some planing runs in, but I was was pretty underpowered and underwhelmed.  I saw other people struggling to get back to the dock in the localized offshore breeze, so I decided to head upwind and come in at HS Lordships Restaurant.

WTF:  that's what I was thinking as I pulled into the cove and saw a kite bar hanging from the tree in front of me.  Here are some accounts of what happened:

I guess I'm taking a page out of the appleinsider.com playbook.   Whenever Apple releases a new product, Apple Insider takes lots of nice pictures.  Where we differ however is that AI likes to show unboxing photos, showing off the slick packaging, and then finally get to detail shots.  Windsurf board boxes are pretty vanilla, so I'll just get to the good stuff.

Here's a sweet 2010 Fanatic Skate 90 Team Edition

It's been cold, rainy, and windless for the most part this winter, but we can all dream of better days in Baja.  If you've never been, do yourself a favor and get down to Punta San Carlos this year.

This is my favorite pic from my first trip to PSC in 2003

Here's a nice clip from the 1999 PWA contest.
