Freestyle freestyle freestyle. It's usually just trying trick after trick for me, but sometimes it's nice to have a change of pace and just go freesailing and try to go fast, and Sunday was one of those days. I ended up in Berkeley despite the less than stellar forecast, but the wind was looking pretty solid. I'd normally rig up my 5.3 and take out a 100l+ freestyle board, but today I felt more like cruising, and I didn't trust the Berkeley wind to hold up, so I took out the Hawk 93 LTD and Ezzy Freewave 5.8. I've only ridden this board once, and I wanted to get a better feel for it. I can't tell you the last time I rode a board that had four footstraps on it, not to mention outboard footstraps on the rail. This gives windsurfing a totally different sensation and a feel of locked in speed. It's fun trying to chase Domond around (fast Berkeley regular) and see if I could keep up... especially in the turns. Jibing this kind of setup is so different than my wave and freestyle gear, and it took me awhile to get tuned back into the different rhythm. Funny that w/ my wave and freestyle gear I tend to jibe better on starboard to port, but on this stuff it's the opposite. I'm regular foot, so I'm guessing it's because the jibe entry technique is more foreign to me on the faster gear, so my strong side comes through. I now kind of want to get a full blown slalom sail for days like this. Fast is fun!
