October usually isn't a good month for wind here in SF Bay, but 2009 has been an exception. There have been lots of good sailing days this month with storms, fronts, thermals, clearing winds. Some nice mellow days and some really windy ones as well. Good thing with the rainfall is that the grass has started to grow again at the Candlestick launch... a reminder of spring time and a nice alternative to the rocks and dirt we've grown accustomed to in the summer. Fall usually means lighter winds focused on Candlestick, Haskins, and Oyster Point. For those of you who haven't been to Haskins, there's a new biomedical building that's vacant. For us that means more parking and the nicest grass I've ever rigged on... just make sure you de-rig before they turn the sprinklers on! Someone made a little art project out of a tree overlooking the sailing area at Da Stick. It's pretty cool! There's also a water contamination warning sign near the launch. Not really the thing you want to see before you get in or after you get out of the water. The good thing is that it lists a hotline and website for checking water quality for SF beaches. This is must have info for those of us that storm sail in the winter. Unfortunately, it's also useful when some damn ship is leaking oil into the Bay! I've bookmarked these ones: Don't forget to check out the latest CLOSEOUT LIST Some pics below of Candlestick and the Haskins rigging area
